Question
hi,i have a gold dollr printed in 2007 (john ADAMs)i was wondering if there is  posibility that there was a misprint u see in these coins on the edges it has god bless america ect all other coins where printed with the president side up but this on the print is upside down with  the back side of the coin facing up so the print on the edges is upside down only on this coin though.....what would it be worth??????thanks.....

Answer
Hello Michelle,

As for the edge lettering I have not seen any hard evidence from the mint about which is correct.
Many people have found them to be "up-side-down" so the printing both ways seems to be common. And I do not see a huge demand for having one of each kind.

The mint is again counting on many people keeping these coins as collector’s items. For each one never redeemed as a medium of exchange it is another dollar on the governments pocket and over a 90 cent profit to the U.S. Mint, since they sell the coins at face value to the bank and manufacture them for a few cents each.

There does seem to be some dealers and people creating an artificial mark-up for the coins and selling both varieties as rare collectables, of what is now a common coin and will be a common coin in the future.

Also these coins are only selling to collectors in MINT STATE condition. If they have any circulation wear they may as well be spent as a dollar.
