Questioni have a red seal 1928 five dollar bill thats in practically uncirculated condition its still crisp can you tell me how much its worth
AnswerHello Pat,
These United States Notes are not rare and common in circulated condition.
Only after the grade is determined can you use a price guide, or can it be properly appraised.
I could not get the current prices for the particular note you are asking about but looked at recent retail price lists.
1953 $5 United States Note – these small size notes have red treasury seals and serial numbers and command only modest premiums over face value if in circulated condition.
The main Grades are FINE, EXTRA FINE and CRISP UNCIRCULATED.
I saw it has a retail list of $8 in Very Fine condition, $13 for Extra fine and $55 to $70 in crisp and never circulated condition. It sells for less to dealers. They are worth more if they have a star in the serial number or a letter after the series date.
Such common circulated notes are difficult to generate interest in simply due to a still plentiful supply and limited demand regardless of the "catalog value."
