Question

1861 Presidential Comm
Hi!

Is there such a thing as this?  I found this U.S. Presidential Commemorative Medallion in my grandfathers coin collection.  It shows Abraham Lincoln's face facing left with his name around the head and 1861 below the head.  On the reverse is written Presidential Commemorative Medallion with an eagle at the center .  I have attached the image.  I hope you can tell me something about this medallion.

Thank you very much and GOD BLESS!

Emerson

Answer
Hello Emerson,

I can't tell you much from the photo.  You will have to have the coin/medal inspected.
The problem is that we don't know whan it was minted.
It could have been part of a commemorative series done in the past 50 years.  There are many private mints such as the Franklin mint that produced such medals.

I am sorry I can't offer more info.
