Question

1863 coin
Dan,
I recently recieved a collection of coins from my grandmother and among them was a 1863 one cent coin that I have been unable to identify. I have attached pictures and I know that a lot of tokens were created in this era but I havent been able to find anything that looks like this one. Any information about what it is and its value would be much appreciated.

You have a privately minted Patriotic Civil War Token -- you would need a Patriotic CWT book to find this variety, but it is a relatively common one.

However, somebody has damaged it by scraping off the word NOT from above the ONE CENT, and the other word below.  As such its value is only about a dollar.
