Question
QUESTION: i have a e pluribus unum 2 1/2 dollor.  one side has united states of America with a eagle, and the other side has liberty with a Indian head. can you tell me the value of this coin.  I also have some 1887 e pluribus unum dollar coins, what are their value

ANSWER: Charlotte,

You didn't mention the date of the $2.5 gold indian, so I will assume it is a common date.  In lightly circulated condition, it's worth about $200

1887 is a common date for Morgan dollars too -- value at $13 to $15 apiece.

QUESTION: sorry the date is 1911

Answer
Charlotte,

While 1911 is a common date, a 1911 with a "D" mintmark on the back is the KEY DATE -- the rarest and most valuable date for the whole series.

So you need to check the back side of the coin, to the left of where it says 2 1/2 DOLLARS, to see if there is a small "D" along the rim.  If so, your coin is going to be worth thousands of dollars -- if not, it's worth about $200.

Pictures of a 1911-D can be seen here :

Let me know if you find a "D" mintmark.

I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
