Question
I found a definite DDO on a Rosevelt dime. Its on the liberty, date, mintmark, and the head looks like it is on fire. It's a 2007P.  Has anyone else found a similar dime?
Thanks,
Jeff

Answer
Hello Jeff,

I must say I am not an error coin collector. I did not find a record for a DDO on a 2007 Roosevelt dime. This sounds like it might be Mechanical Doubling.

I see mechanically doubled coins selling occasionally at shows I go to for less than a dollar depending on the features that are visibly doubled on the coin.

Here is a good web page The National Collectors Association of Die Doubling
Describing the difference between hub doubling and machine doubling:
http://www.geocities.com/NCADD/educational1.html

If you still think you have a Doubled Die Error feel free to write me again to look at the coin closer.

You did not state what parts on your piece are doubled I know this makes it easier to identify in the error collecting community.

I also want to mention COMBINED ORGANIZATION of NUMISMATIC ERROR COLLECTORS ASSOCIATION; they are the ultimate experts in the error coin field.  go to http://conecaonline.org/

CONECA is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Re-punched mint marks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers just to name a few.

I hope this information Helps.

If there any more information you require on this question just ask.

Thank You and Good Luck
