Question

2007 dime
Sending a picture of 2007 dime that looks like it has a crack through the face and also a pony tail image at back of head.  What do you think this is worth or is it just nothing?

Answer
Hello Joan,

This photo is not very clear but this is a production error not a die error and would sell for less than a dollar at a coin show.

It seems to suggest a broken and cracked Die. Perhaps caused by a Die-Clash in which the top and bottom image in the die hit each other without a coin blank present and imparted some of the design on the opposing die. It is also possible that the die cracked for another reason like wear or improper heat-treatment.

This happens all the time and is not considered an error or variety of the coin just a novelty.

Thank You for the question and Good Luck
