Question
I have inherited a collection of coins. One of which is a set of 90 $5 Desert Storm Coins. All are intact and mint. They are in a nice album which is also in mint cond. and reads "World's First Desert Storm Coin Collection". I have been able to find a few separate coins on the internet, but not this entire set. Do you know anything about it and what the value might be? If I were to sell it, what would be the best venue? Thanks so much for your time!

Answer
Cathy,

I'm not familiar with that specific set, but I have to believe it is one of those priovately minted medal sets, which unfortunately have almost no resale value over whatever precious metal the pieces may contain.

I'm sure it's an excellent looking set, but there is just no market out there for it, other than for any silver it may contain.

Best thing I can suggest for you is to find some kind of certificate in the set that states the silver content of the coins (if any), take lots of pictures of the set (including the certificate), and list it on eBay.  Start the price low and see where it goes.  Be sure to prominently state the amount of silver the set contains.

Good luck!

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
