Question

1799 Front View
I have a 1799 Draped Bust one dollar coin.  I would like to know the estimated value and possibly a little background info if you have it available.

Thank you in advance for your assistance

Answer
Patricia,

I hate to say it, but your coin does not look genuine.  It's hard to see from the picture, but it just looks off.

Pictures and stats about genuine 1799 dollars can be found here :

http://www.coinfacts.com/silver_dollars/draped_bust_dollars/1799_silver_dollars/...

History about the Draped Bust Dollar can be found here :

You will need to get it certified, but if genuine, your coin could be worth thousands.  However, if fake, or a replica or silver round, it will be worth less than $20

First thing to do is compare your coin to the pictures shown and the stats listed on the first web page above.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
