Question
I have a $50 gold Liberty coin, but there is no date on it.  On the back side it states "1 oz. Fine Gold~50 Dollars". I've attempted to read a very small symbol on the front side, but even under magnification, I can't make it out. Is this an actual coin and what is it's worth?

Answer
Hi Kay,

You may have a US Gold Eagle.  In the first couple of years of mintage, the date was in roman numerals like MCMLXXXVI

Currently your coin is woth about $950 or whatever gold is trading for per ounce.
