Coin and Paper Money Collecting/spotted quarter

Question
My fiance recently obtained a quarter that has perfectly spaced spots on both sides. They become more clear at different angles. Much easier to see on the front though. The back looks normal until you tip it at the right angle and you can see the spots pretty good. She was curious if this could be worth anything and/or how it happened. If nothing else she thinks it's pretty cool. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Sean,

The spots could be caused by a few things.  Coins tarnish, or tone as it is called in numismatic terms.  If the coin was in say, a pouch where it could interact with the surrounding air that invaded the space only through those holes, this couls cause it.
It may also be a minting defect.  There is no way of knowing without a thorough physical inspection
