Coin and Paper Money Collecting/19th century coins

Question
Hi Bruce,

Recently handed down to me was a box of early U.S. and world coins. There is
a number of early U.S. coins presumably used by my great-great grandfather.
They include:

1870 three-cent nickel( you can see all the vertical lines on the III)
1875 twenty-cent coin
1883 five cent (only has a V) nickel, you can still read "liberty" easily
1858 dime (quite good condition)
1867 nickel

Everything is in very good condition and everything is readable except for the
last coin, which is very worn. Please tell me what the values of these coins
are!

Thank you so much

Answer
This sounds like a nice little lot of coins.  It's very difficult to give value without seeing what they look like.  If you have a scanner or can decent (in-focus and close-up) shots of the coins, please submit those.  Make sure you use a minimum of 600 dpi for the scanner.  At a minimum you probably have at least $200 or so in value.  It could be much more depending on condition.

Expertise

I specialize in U.S. three-cent nickels, but also close behind them are U.S. two-cent pieces, three-cent silver, and twenty cent pieces. Also, I have a bit of experience in the area of U.S. Early Proofs (19th century). However, I can possibly assist in most questions regarding U.S. Type coins.

Experience

I have read virtually everything I can find in print on the areas of U.S. 2-3-20 cent pieces. I have written articles on three-cent coins and Early Proofs published (or will be published) in Coin World.
