Question
I have a 2005 Lewis and Clark nickel, with the inscription on it that says "Ocean In View O! The Joy"  What is this worth?

Answer
Hello Sandy,

These coins are actually trading dealer to dealer at face value. Unless you find a really beautiful MINT-STATE un-marred specimens that grade higher on the coin scale than 67 they are sold at face value. (That coin scale only goes up to 70) Even High-Grade examples collectors only pay about a dollar at retail.

The Westward Journey Nickel Series featured four new Coins.
The 2004 Peace medal and the Keelboat design.  The 2005 Nickels featured the American Bison and your “Ocean in view” design.
All used the modified Jefferson design on the front of the coin.  All were produced at Philadelphia and Denver mints for circulation and a proof specimen was made at the San Francisco mint. The proof coin does sell for a few dollars.

But your coin made for circulation had 394,080,000 made in Philadelphia and 411,120,000 made at the Denver mint so there is a total of 805,200,000 of them around.
Although people are hoarding them thinking they are special they trade at face value.

I hope this information helps.

Good Luck
