Question
Hi my name is Samantha, I have recently came upon a coin my grandma used to have. It has the same front as the Morgan coin but the back is completely different. I'm not sure if its a fake or something. It has a man holding a spear sitting on a horse and it says "Trees of Mystery Shrine Of The Redwoods". Its from 1921. If you could tell me anything about this coin it would be much appreciated, thanks.

Answer
Samantha,

Although I am not specifically familiar with it, I would have to believe it is something that was privately made -- some kind of souvenir, probably from the area around Klamath, California.

If you do some web searching for "Trees of Mystery" and "Shrine Of The Redwoods", you will find many websites related to that.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
