Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Off Center $5 silver certificate.

Question
Recently I recieved a $5 silver certificate, Circulated with a crease though the center. I dont have it with me at the moment, but i belive its dated 1957, dont recall the series. I didnt think much about it at the time, but my dad thinks its worth something because its off center. The border along the top is cut flush with the print, wheras the border on the bottom is a little less than a quarter inch thick. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Answer
Hello George,

Are both sides the same amount off?
If so this is a cutting error when the notes were separated

If one side has equal margins and the other is shifted it was a miss-registration error at the printing stage.

The note with no error sells for about $8 if there is no star in the serial number. And they would be either a 1934 or 1953 series note if it is a $5 silver certificate.

Both these errors although unusual are not that drastic and would not carry a premium price.
I have only seen those with the adjoining note showing sell as errors.

I hope this information helps.

Good Luck
