Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Copper Nickel

Question
We have a 2005 Copper Nickle ... Does it have value and what can we do with it?

Answer
Hello Thomas,

Nickels are not normally made of copper.  The coin would have to be inspected and authenticated.  It could be that the wrong planchet (coin blank) was used, or simply that the coin was plated with copper.

It deserved more investigation.  Certainly if it is merely plated, there is no additional value to it, however having it on the wrong planchet could be quite valuable.

Have it looked at by a few professional numismatists, however do not sell it just yet.  Get it authenticated and certified by Numismatic Guarantee Corporation.  The certification makes it more valuable.
