Question
My friend has a series of coins from around the world, most are at least sixty years old (like the 1948 piece).  When she talked to the bank they told her that they would only give her the current value for them.

How might I find the values of these coins?  She has coins from Uruguay, The Netherlands, Chile, Helvetica, and other countries.

Answer
Hi William,
The Curacao coin ranges in sale price from $1 to around $15, depending on condition. You or your friend can e-mail me directly at BetweenEarthnSky@yahoo.com  The most efficient way would be to send me large and clear pictures of both sides, so that I may provide the best information as far as grade and value. If this is not possible, a detailed description should be enough for a value range like I've given with the Curacao coin.
Coins from that period and earlier are really "the stuff" of coin collecting, and should have some decent value as long as the coins are in good condition.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
