About Dan Moore
Expertise My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library,
and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just
about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current
price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So,
with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value
any U.S. coin you have.
Experience I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
Organizations I belong to :
American Numismatic Association Member #187770
Michigan State Numismatic Society Member #8255
Florida United Numismatics Member #19710
Monroe Coin Club Treasurer
Lincoln Coin Club Board Member

Expert: Dan Moore - 10/29/2009
Question
QUESTION: I have found a 1956D lincoln penny with an error on the reverse. It appears the wheat imprints are there and then the memorial is stamped over them. What do I do next? How do I verify its authenticity and worth? Thank you in advance.
ANSWER: Marilyn,
First you can start by sending me pictures of both sides of the coin -- I should be able to tell whether it happened at the mint or some time after it left the mint.

QUESTION: Here are the pictures, hope they are good enough. Look forward to hearing from you.
Answer Sorry Marilyn, but this was not done at the Mint. Somebody with a press took a normal 1956D penny and a 1959 or later penny and put them both into some kind of press, transferring the image from the Memorial cent onto the wheat cent.
Unfortunately this coin has no collector value.
Dan
