Question
i have a 1982 100 forint magyar nepkoztarsasag football commemorative coin and i was wonderin how much it would be worth today?

Answer
Hi Eric,
This is a low mintage coin, with only 150,000 made. For a US coin that would be quite rare, but not so much for a foreign item. The book value in top condition is $4, however these coins are popular with a growing number of European bidders. A mint condition coin would sell in the $5 to $10 range. One that has light wear is still worth a couple dollars.
Also worth noting, these coins are still spendable legal tender in Hungary. No matter how worn, the minimum exchange value is around 55 cents.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
