Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Morgan & Peace Dollars

Question
I started collecting when I was a kid, 45 years ago.
Now a grandfather has passed leaving his collection to us to divide.
I know evaluation is crucial here, and I do not want to sell most of whatever I wind up with.
The problem lies with the volume of coins we are looking at.
We have about 200 Morgan dollars, 200 Peace dollars, a number of gold US mint coins, plus numerous other Gold(plated?) president coins, Silver proofs for the Liberty 100-year, Silver bullion coins, Pope visiting the US proof sets, etc...
Most of the Coins have been kept in either plastic single sleeves or in tubes.
Most of the Dollars are in excellent condition, and I was literally stunned by this.
How would I go about getting this collection valued without spending a huge amount of $$ which we don't have, or choking one of my relatives who may need a sedative.
Thank You from a fellow expert.

Answer
Hi Dean,

Where ar you located?  I am in NY and I would do a free appraisal for you if you can get to me.

I am always buying collections.  One thing I tell people is that they need to know what to keep and what to sell.  There is no point selling somthing that has good potential appreciation, and no point holding onto the junk.

If you have access to the collection, I owuld need a complete inventory of the coins listed by denomination, date and mintmark, and general quality.  Not being a collector, I can not expect you to grade the coins but a general idea will allow me to give a value range.

You shouldn't be stunned the the high quality of the dollars, millions were made and original 1,000 coin bags still come on the market.  With the exception of rare dates, I can supply 10,000-15,000 coins within a matter of days.  They aren't as rare as you would think when considering their age.

Anyway, you can email directly at JoeHylas@aol.com   or fax me at 516-759-6979
