Question
QUESTION: I would appreciate any help in identifying a few coins that I have. They appear to be middle east origin although I am not sure. The writing on the coins is in script and they have crossed swords and a palm tree on one side and the other side has what appears to be a box shape in the center. There is a small star on both sides. I have attached photosof one coin and the other coins are similar in size but have different designs.

regards Vic

ANSWER: Hi Vic,
The coin you describe sounds like a vintage Saudi Arabian coin, though there is no photograph attached. This coin should have a circle in the center of the reverse side, or a blank area surrounded by writing. The palm tree and crossed swords is a Saudi coat-of-arms of sorts, which is used on most of their coins from the 1950's and later. Saudi coins are fairly popular with collectors. Value depends on the denomination, date and condition.
Please post a follow-up question with the other coins and I will provide as much information as I can.
Thanks for the question! =)

QUESTION: attached is the reverse side of the coin

Answer
Hi again,
This is is a Saudi temple token, the box shape is an image of a mosque. There really are not many of these to compare, but yours is probably worth around $10 or even a little more because of scarcity. This is actually a lot more than most of the modern Saudi coins are worth.
Thanks again!

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
