I have a 1790 coin how do i preserve it?

Nick,

Do not try to clean it -- you will destroy any collector value it may have.

The best way to preserve it (without spending $35 to get it certified) is to spend a couple dollars for an "Air-Tite" holder. Measure the coin's diameter in millimeters, then go to the following website and order the corresponding size holder :
