Question

Egypting coin
About a year ago you identified a coin for Rosa as a 4, 10, 20 para from 1865. I have a similar coin but I can get a copy of the coin Catalog prior to 1900 without paying alot. I believe it is a 10 Para because I can decypher the I. on the from as 10 it is on a smile like curve with three dots under it. The obverse does not have the tradition cluster of roses on it that you see on 1900 coins and later.  Do you know of any source online that could pinpoint the actual value and or validity of this coin?

Answer
Hi Christopher, this would be a copper Egyptian 10 para dated 1277 (1861) with the regnal (year of reign) of 4 (1863-4). The 10 para denomination would be an Arabic 1 with a diamond shaped dot after it. Collector value may be worth about .25 with heavy wear to around $2.50 with moderate wear to maybe $10 with light wear.

You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
