About Dan Moore
Expertise My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library,
and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just
about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current
price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So,
with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value
any U.S. coin you have.
Experience I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
Organizations I belong to :
American Numismatic Association Member #187770
Michigan State Numismatic Society Member #8255
Florida United Numismatics Member #19710
Monroe Coin Club Treasurer
Lincoln Coin Club Board Member

Coin Collecting - missing letters?numbers and 1960 weird 0
Expert: Dan Moore - 10/20/2009
Question i have 2 1963 denver mint lincoln cent w no n in unum. i have a 1953 denver mint with out the 1. also i have a 1960 denver mint where the 0 (in 1960) is odd. the 0 starts at the bottom and go up normally then at a little more than half way mark it slants down back to starting point in a straight line. any idea what these are worth?
Answer Nick,
I get asked about the missing letter thing all the time. The explanation that covers 99% of the missing letters is due to a foreign substance (like machine grease) that gets into the die and prevents the complete striking of all the details.
As for the 1960 cent, without seeing it I have to believe something happened to it after it left the mint.
Collector interest in this type of stuff is low -- value at less than $1.00 apiece.
Dan
