Coin Collecting - 1919 Mexican Gold Coin

Expert: Dmitry Livshits - 11/9/2009

Question
Hi. I'm wondering if you can provide an estimated value of a 15 Gr pure gold Estados Unidos Mexicanos coin, circa 1919. It appears to be in perfect condition. Many thanks.

Answer
Hi J,
I own one of these coins and they are very attractive pieces.
This would be a 20 (Veinte) pesos coin, which weighs 16.6 grams of .900 gold (which is 15 grams of pure gold weight). Since they were not meant to be spent as regular money, most of these remain in excellent condition. As such they sell for about 10% above gold bullion value. If you sold your coin today (gold is over $1,100 per ounce, the highest it's ever been) you can expect right around $600. Gold is still increasing, so it may be worth holding on to for a little while longer.
Please don't forget to rate this answer.
Thanks for the question! =)
