Question
I have many foreign coins and am trying to find out the value of coins.  Is a coin with this year worth anything.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Carol,
Value would depend on the coin's condition and country the country it comes from.
A 1937 1 franc is likely from France or Switzerland.
The French one will be a yellow color. Value starts at less than $1 for a well used coin and tops out at $10 for a mint condition and shiny coin.
The Swiss one will be made of silver, and may have dark toning on the surface. This one is less common and more valuable, starting at $3 for a well used coin and topping out in the $30 to $50 range for a mint condition coin.
Feel free to ask about all your unidentified coins. If they are in a foreign language that you cannot describe, just post a picture along with the question.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
