Question I have in my possession a 1976 penny with a small engraving of the state of Washington with the initials, "WA" in the middle of the state. The state would be located directly in front of Lincoln's head if you were looking at his bust. What exactly do I have?
Answer Hi Blake,
The outline of the state was done after it left the US Mint. These are pretty common and used as souvenier pieces. I have seen them with state outlines, stars, outlines of Kennedy etc.
They really have no value to numismatic collectors.
I hope this helped. If so, please rate my answer and maybe nominate me for "Expert of the Month"?
