QuestionBrad--
Hi--I was about to sell 2 bills on ebay because I have no need for them--and was wondering what their values may be. the 2$ bill is a note (not in great condition but as its 1937 series Jan 2--not bad for 72 years old)--MB 2616564 is serial number reddish brown background with kings portrait in center. The $1 Bill is 1954 with a young queen on it (PZ 9646071 serial number) in very good condition. Any help (and suggestion for sale) would be appreciated. thank you
Michael
AnswerHi Michael, Collector value of a note depends on date, series letter or signature and condition, including amount of wear, any folds, tears or stains as well as collector demand.
The 1937 $2 note collector value with Osborne as the first signature may be worth about $15 with heavy wear to around $60 with moderate wear to maybe $150 with light wear. With Gordon or Coyne as the first signature it may be worth about $7, $20 or $40 in the same conditions.
The early 1954 issues have a 'devil's face' in the hair by the queen's ear. These are worth a bit more than the corrected version with the same date depending on signature, amount of wear and collector demand.
Let me know which 1954 $1 you have and the signature names and I can give you an estimate of its value.
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
