Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Coin I Found

Question
Hello! While going through some change I discovered a coin that didn't belong! I'm hoping you might be able to help me identify at least where it came from. It has no English letters/writing on it. One side depicts a man w/ glasses in profile (his left side). On the reverse there appears to be what looks a dragon coming out of the right side of the image and holding a string of some sort dangling from its mouth over what appears to be a town/village. The only writing I could identify is the number "5" on the reverse. Any help identifying this coin would be wonderful! Thank you
Danielle

Answer

Five baht 1987-88
Hi Danielle,
You have a 5 "baht" coin from Thailand. This coin is from 1987 or 1988, the only two years that this type was made. I have attached a picture of one such coin.
The man on the front is King Rama IX, while the opposite side shows the grand royal palace "Suphannahong".
Since this coin is still circulating money in Thailand, the collector value is not significant. These coins usually sell for no more than a couple dollars in excellent condition.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
