Question
I have a Marilyn Monroe 1995 Commemorative coin set from Republic of Marshall Island. The set includes a $50 silver proof coin, $20 silver proof coin, $10 uncirculated solid brass and $5 uncirculated cupronickel. All four coins are idividually capsulated and are in presentation box along with Certificate of Authenticity. My question is how much would this be be worth today?

Answer
Hi Angel,
Currently your set has a retail value of around $75. This is a combination of their weight in silver bullion and/or currency exchange value.
At this time, such sets do not have much collectible or numismatic value beyond that of the materials and legal tender value. This is also true for sets from Liberia, which are all done specifically to be novelty sets and not meant to be used as money.
The coins would probably bring more money if sold individually... as Marilyn Monroe collectors will be bidding more than coin collectors would.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
