Question
Hi, i really need some help. I have a egyptian coin and its about 2.3cm but i seen a kurush with the same pattern but nothing comes up for year 25 that is the same as mine, its 1293 but at the top it has a 7 which is the other way round and a o, not a dot. Its silver, on one side it has stars all the way around it and on the other side all the way round it looks like tiny flowers and other decoration, no gap just all the way around. Any help and it would settle my frustration in trying to search as i can not find this coin that is in such fine condition, near un. Thanks from liz

Answer

Egyptian 1 qirsh
Hi Liz,
This sounds like an Egyptian 1 qirsh. I have attached a picture of one of the same date (1293/25, 1899). This is a better date with a low mintage of 751,000. Value starts at under $5 for a well used coin, but increases into the $20 to $30 range for one with very little wear. One that is in mint condition, such as the picture, is worth in the $40 to $60 range,
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
