Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Mis-struck Quarter

Question
I came across a misstruck Hawaii state quarter and was wonder how much its worth.  It is not a normal mis strike.  Over the face of the quarter is a the imprint of the back of a Penny as though the quarter some how got in with the pennies as they were being minted.  I'm not sure if its worth anything, but it's sure an odd find.

Answer
Michael,

Sorry but it's not possible to stamp a quarter-sized blank with the penny-sized image -- the blank simply will not fit into the press.  So the only way it can happen is if the coin is severely mis-shapen by the penny press, even to the point of cutting through the blank.  Also, this would leave the images from both sides of the penny on both sides of the quarter, so if you have only one image, it surely happened at some time after the quarter left the mint.

I suspect somebody stuck both coins into some kind of machine press and smashed them together.

This item would have no collector value -- perhaps a dollar or two novelty value.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
