Question
I wonder what some old Newfoundland coins might be worth: 1908 nickle,1912 dime, 1929 nickle, and 1938 nickle. These coins have been out of general circulation since 1942.

Answer
Hi Bernard, Collector value of a coin depends on date, denomination, mint mark (if any), number minted and condition of a coin, including amount of wear, any dents, scratches or cleaning as well as collector demand for it.
1908 5c, 400,000 minted, .035 of an ounce of silver, collector value may be worth about .50 with heavy wear to around $2 with moderate wear to maybe $5 with light wear.
1929 5c, 300,000, same silver, .50, $3, $12 in conditions mentioned above.
1938 5c, 100,000, same silver, .50, $2, $7.
1912 10c, 150,000, .070 of an ounce of silver, $1, $10, $40.
The last Newfie coins were issued in 1947.
