Question
What does the term war nickel mean for Jefferson nickels?
Thanks

Answer
Hello Ross,

"War nickels” were produced by the United States from mid-1942* through 1945. The coins were manufactured from 56% copper, 35% silver and 9% manganese. This is different from the 75% copper nickel that was made before and after the war. The nickel metal then was used for production of military supplies during World War II.

Good Luck,
