Question I have a Liberian coin of $20.00 denomination. It has Thomas Jefferson, III President of the United States on one side and the Seal of the Republic of Liberia on the reverse side. The coin is encased in a plastic covering. What is the value of this coin in US Dollars? How could I sell this coin? If I would like to exchang it for USD how much USD should I ask for?
Answer Hi Eman,
Considering the exchange rate of $1 US to $70.50 Liberian, this coin would be about 28 cents in legal tender. Luckily the collectible value is a bit better. There are many coins in this series, all of which list for $25 as a collectible value. However, when auctioned they typically sell for silver bullion value of around $10 (these coins contain .64oz of pure silver). Some sellers put them up for full value, but they rarely sell as such.
Your best bet for selling the coin is eBay, where there is no shortage of bidders.
Thanks for the question! =)
