Question
i have a small coin collection and i'd like to know the approximate values of a few of them.  1)  1887 dollar, pic of lady liberty on back with stars on edges, eagle on other side holding spears (like on the presidential seal), avg condition.  2)  1922 dollar coin, like the first but lady liberty has larger spikes and eagle is perched on a rock with rays of sun, avg condition.  3) 1943 nickel, similar to modern, P above monticello.  4)  1944 dime, winged portriat, collum? or axe? on other side with a bush or tree.  5)  1930 nickel, buffalo on one side, indian head on the other.  6)  1943 silver wheat penny (sticks to magnet).  7) 2 1776-1976 dollars with eisenhower, liberty bell and moon on other side.  8)  various wheat pennys (from 1920 [s] to 1956).  i hope thats enough info, i know i'll need to go to a dealer for more exact numbers, but i'd just like some idea on what ive got, if anything.  Thank you!

Answer
Jason,

Assuming average conditions, here are the approximate values :

1) 1887 dollar -- $15
2) 1922 dollar coin -- $13
3) 1943 nickel -- 50 cents
4) 1944 dime -- $1.10
5) 1930 nickel -- 50 cents
6) 1943 steel cent -- 10 cents
7) 2 1776-1976 dollars  -- $1.05 each
8) various wheat pennys -- 2.5 cents each (unless you happen to have a rare date/mint like 1922, 1922-D, 1923-S, 1924-D, 1926-S, 1931-D, 1931-S, or 1933-D)

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
