Coin Collecting - an out of place coin

Expert: Brad Swain - 11/9/2009

Question
I was going through my English and Irish coins when i found one that looked like it didn't belong, it is about 3/4 and inch in diameter. It has a double headed eagle on one side with bAHK POCCNN above it with the two N's uppside down, and another phrase i cannot type below it and the date 1997. Then On the opposite side is a large 1 with another phrase i am unable to type from my current keyboard, but looks like PYbJIb

Answer
Hi Trent, this is a nickel-brass Russian 1 Ruble coin that may be worth about .10 to $1 depending on amount of wear and collector demand.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
Brad
