Question
hi-i have a question about the 1999 silver proof sets.i think they were around 800,000 sets total.i have been watching over 5 years and have seen alot that has been graded and i have seen alot of boxes sold with out any coins in then.why would any one want a box with no coins.i think that they are alot out there on the market with clad coins in them.if you are not real good at knowing the diffrance it would be very hard to tell with out opening the box and if you do that you can see the copper in them.but they would say that you could have done it when you opend it.i bet they are not much more than 100,000 real silver proof sets left that have not been opend.it is very easy to do this.i think this will make the price go up when people finnaly see whats going on.try it for yourself and see how many people can tell the diffrance.it has been done to alot more than just the 1999.i have offered to buy some of the 1999 silver proof sets if they would gaurantee that they were not the s-proof clad coins and they would not do it.what do you think about it.thanks

Answer
Hi Paul,
An experienced eye can see the difference in the surface of silver and clad coins.
Will some people be taken advantage of by unscrupulous dealrs, probably.

The key is to know what you are looking at.
