Question
Hi I have a 1808 twenty cent coin that is in greate shape on one side it has united states of america. On the back side it has twenty centavos filipines. can you tell me somthing more about it. thank you Rpy Pearson

Answer
Hi Roy,
This would be a 1908 coins from the Philippines, while under the US administration. The Philippines were under US rule from 1898 (acquired from Spain after the Spanish-American war) and up to 1946. Your 20 centavos is about the same size as a US quarter and made at the San Fransisco mint. Value depends on condition, and starts at $3 or so for a well used coin and goes up to $10-$15 for a high grade one. Mint condition coins run between $40 and $100, depending on just how nice they are.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
