Answer

Hi Scott,
Sorry that the expert you originally posed the question to did not give you an answer. I am quite familiar with the coin you have and will give you all the info you need.
You coin is a 1 thaler from the German state of Saxe-Meiningen. This was one of the smaller states, so your coin has a relatively low mintage of only 40,000.
Please keep in mind that, for foreign coins, low mintage does not mean a similar price as a US coin with the same mintage.
There are also replicas out there, and a genuine coin should weigh right around 18.5 grams.
An example such as the one you describe, with minimal wear is worth in the $150 to $250 range. A mint condition coin starts at $350 and can go up to double if it is certified by a reputable company in an exceptionally high grade.
If you would like to post a follow-up question with a picture of the coin, I can give you more specific information on the value.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
