Question
I was wondering if you could give me a possible value of a 1923 peace dollar. It has an S stamped on the back and it has been circulate and is now discolored and does have a few scratches on it.

Thanks!!

Answer
Hi Gary, There were 19 million of these dollars minted in San Francisco (S). U.S. silver dollars weigh 26.73 grams and contain .7736 of an ounce of silver.
Collector value may be worth about $13 with heavy wear to around $17 with moderate wear to maybe $18 with light wear to perhaps $22+ if uncirculated (no wear).
You might also try a library for a copy of the Guidebook of United States Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
