Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1936 russian penny

Question
My sister got a 1936 Russian penny From subway for change   is it worth  anything?

Answer
Hi Carol,
A 1936 Russian 1 kopeck can have decent value, depending on the condition. A typical well used coin is only worth a dollar or two, but one that is sharp and shiny sells for $10 to $15.
The Russian coins market has become quite hot recently. Just a few years ago this coin would be worth only a couple of dollars even in mint condition.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
