Question
I recently sold what appeared to be copper 1943 Lincoln pennies to a dealer. Later I found out their potential value. What are the odds they were real ( I have since discovered they are rare)? And under what obligation is a dealer to not "cheat" me if they were real? This is an organization which travels to cities and buys estates and coins.

Unfortunately, if they were real, you've been screwed. They are under no legal obligation to give them back, and I would bet $100,000 (their potential value) that there's no way that organization ever would.
However, the odds that they are real is extremely minute. There are only a few dozen known real specimens, while there are thousands of copper plated or altered date fakes out there.
I wouldn't worry about it too much,
