Question
I have such a coin and not being a collector was wondering what might the real silver coin be worth. My coin is in a grey & clear plastic sleeve that says Clydesdale Bank, if that should make any difference. Thank you>

Answer
Hi Charlie, There were  37 million of these copper-nickel British 25 pence coins celebrating the Queen's 25th anniversary of reign minted for circulation that year and 194,000 Proof copper-nickel versions. Proof coins have mirror fields that allows reflecting newsprint to be read at least 6 inches away. The Uncirculated version may be worth about $1.50 while the Proof may be worth about $6.
There was also an Uncirculated copper-nickel version put out in a Royal Mint folder worth about $4 and 377,000 silver Proof versions worth about $20.
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
