Question
i have two coins both from paraguay and both are 2005 one is a 100 guaranies the other is a 500 guaranies.they are both gold in color the only ones ive seen were dull silver in color and a different year but they have the same markings as the gold colored ones that i have just wondering why these are different.       thanks chuck

Answer
Hi Chuck,
The 2005 coins for those denominations were made of brass plated steel, as opposed to copper-nickel as the previous years. The pair is worth around $5 in mint condition, which is relatively good for modern circulating coins.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
