Question
Hello Troy,
Ive been collecting American Eagles (20th anniversery) since 2006 and my facination with them has become somewhat of an obsession investing around $11,000 so far, I have come to the decision to purchase a NGC 2006 Blue Label MS 70 since I dont have that eagle in my vault, however there seems to be some confusing facts about the coin and its current value and possile future value, PCGS doesent recognise the coin but of course NGC does, the coin im eyeing is nearly $1100 so before I leap I want to ask if maybe im making a error in judgement purchaseing it or what? Thx Paul

Answer
Hi Paul,

To be clear you are referring to the 3 coin set (2006 Silver Proof Eagle, 2006-W Unc Silver Eagle, and the reverse proof).  Potential risk factors in buying this set is the difference in price between a normal 70 set vs the Blue Label.  Also, add to this the thin market on special label coins and modern 70 coins in general. Personally, I am not a fan of buying a special label.  My focus is always on the coin not the label.  I am a big fan of the 2006 Silver 20th anniversary set.

PCGS is only going to recognize PCGS graded coins in their pricing guides.  Values (including future predictions) can only be tested when a transaction takes place.  Take a look at completed items on eBay to get a better gauge of actual trends.

Yes, the following is a canned response designed to help the novice collector with general information.  If you need more explanation or you feel my answer is to short, please call me or reply with a more specific question.  I own and operate two active coin shops and I apologize in advance if my answer is short, to the point, or lacking detail.  Again, please reply or if I missed something or if you need more information.

Information given about values is general and determined by current market conditions and/or the price of metals.  Prices and values are subject to change.

Please remember to never clean coins, this can damage and lessen their value.  Also, soft plastics can contain harmful chemicals that can react with coins over time.  Try using inert materials when storing coins.  Plus, it is always a good idea to store coins in a safe.  The safe should not be exposed to the elements and should not be up against a wall to the outside.  These are just a few tips I have learned over the years to help keep your collection in top shape.
