Question
I have a 1885 Newfoundland 50 cent piece. Could you tell me what it's worth.  It's in perfect condition.

Answer
Hi Otto, There were 40,000 of these 50c minted that year. This coin should weigh 11.7818 grams and would contain .3504 of an ounce of silver. Collector value may be worth about $15 with heavy wear to around $175 with moderate wear to maybe $650 with light wear to perhaps $3000 if uncirculated (no wear).
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
