Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Cut error on a dollar bill

Question
Dan, I have an uncirculated 1985 series Dollar Bill which is cut halfway so that it shows the bottom half of one dollar bill and the top half of another.  Let me know if you would like to see a scan.  Can you tell me if it’s worth anything?

Thanks, Gary M., Keller TX

Answer
Gary,

Minor cutting errors are worth about $40 -- major cutting errors are worth about $4000 -- I suspect yours is somewhere in the middle.

I sugest you send pictures of both sides to an currency error dealer I know to see what his opinion is :

Good luck,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
