Question
I thought that the big Ike dollars had some silver content, but have been advised that they do not. Do they or don't they have some silver and if they do, how much?

Some of them do contain 40% silver. However they were only issued in special mint packaging. The only ones that CAN be silver will have an "S" mintmark -- however not all "S" mintmark coins WILL be silver. Silver ones were only made from 1971 to 1976.
You can tell by looking at the edge of the coin, where the reeding is. If it has a copper stripe, then it is not silver. If there is no copper stripe, then it is silver.
The silver ones will contain 0.3161 ounce of pure silver.
