ANSWER: Hi Tom,
As promised, here is the identification for your coins. I have also included a value range, since I don't know the condition of your coins. The range is from what a well used coin starts at to what a mint condition coin tops out at.

1. 1770 one thaler, German state of Bavaria - $25 to $200.

2. 1913 three marks, German state of Prussia, commemorates 100 year anniversary of the defeat of Napoleon - $10 to $40.

3. 1913 three marks, German state of Saxony, commemorates 100 year anniversary of the Battle of Liepzig - $10 to $60.

4. 1776 one thaler, Austrian state of Salzburg - $60 to $400.

5. 1627 one thaler klippe (square shaped), Austrian state of Salzburg under Count Paris von Lodron - $75 to $500.

6. 1784 one thaler, Austrian state of Salzburg - $60 to $400.

7. 1904 five marks, German state of Baden - $25 to $750 (rare in mint condition).

8. 1655 to 1677 one piastre, Vatican/Rome under Pope Alexander VII - $250 to $1,500.

9. 1897 "Shutzenmedaille" - Shooting festival award medal from Nurenburg, Germany - $100 to $150 in excellent condition.

10. 1909 three marks, German state of Prussia - $10 to $70.

11. 1876-B five marks, German state of Prussia - $15 to $800 (rare in mint condition).

12. 1913 three marks, German state of Prussia, commemorates 25th year of reign of Wilhelm II - $10 to $35.

13. 1911 three marks, German state of Bavaria, commemorates the 90th birthday of Prince Regent Luitpold - $10 to $60.

14. Same as #11. 1876-B five marks, German state of Prussia - $15 to $800 (rare in mint condition).

15. 1871 one thaler, German state of Prussia - $12 to $80.

16. 1935/1936 5 marks, Germany 3rd Reich - various mint marks, most are $8 to $30.

17. 1909 one mark, German Empire - various mint marks, A,D or G are $2 to $100, E is rare - $40 to $400, J is even more rare - $75 to $600. The mint marks would be at the bottom below the eagle's talons.

QUESTION: Dmitry,
As you know these coins I've asked about are much larger than coins of today.  Can you tell me where I can find coin holders that will fit these coins?  Thanks!

Answer
Tom,
Most of these coins should fir into US silver dollar holders. For the larger ones you can go to airtiteholders.com where they have various ones up to 43mm in size (US coin holders go up to 38mm for silver dollars). These should fir all of your round coins. For square coins, it would be a little more tricky. You may actually have to send those in to a grading company, such as NGC, to be slabbed in an appropriate holder.
Thanks again! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
